[personal profile] xyzzysqrl recently did a thing about how it's nice to have a dumping ground for short little single-screenshot three-sentence reactions to things, but that Twitter is horrible and worth fleeing with all urgency.

Later that same day I tweeted a dumb little Pokemon Go thing, despite my actual therapist I was actually seeing for actual anxiety/panic attack issues actually telling me that step 1 toward recovery is to stay the fuck off Twitter. I am guilty of having this same problem, as it turns out.

So, in the interest of not being a massive hypocrite after I'd advised my good blogmog friend to bring that stuff here, maybe I too should just use Dreamwidth for my little bite-sized reactions. On one hand, uploading screenshots is a bit more of a process over here, but on the other I would no longer have to edit down if I have a four sentence reaction that's 15 characters too long to fit in a tweet.

So, I'm going to at least try it here and see how it goes, tagged with "microblogging" both in the tags and in the post title. I don't do this nearly as often (before last night's Pokemon Go thing, the last original non-retweet tweet I made was two weeks ago,) but if you don't want even that much extra junk on your reading page, you can... uh... can you blacklist tags? Maybe? Is that a thing people can do?

Anyway.

Imgur! You don't have to share anything publically, there's a phone app you can use to upload things on, and it gives you the URL to link.

Yes, reading filters can use tag exclusions (though a few parts of the UI are terrible).

Trust me, you're—well, okay, you've been on Twitter, so you've actually got more perspective than I do, but to me these are just “short, casual entries”, not actual “microblogging”, which is frankly a thing I like better on the whole because the latter has a tendency to atomize everything and then smash it all together for maximum conflicts on fire. Um. Yes.

A limited word count was both a curse and more importantly a blessing, until people decided to thread eternally.

Then it was just a curse.

I think it's more just for Twitter's own logistical purposes than anything, at this point?

Though just how taxing can plain text even be anyway.
