Here is a .zip of the editor save. I have no idea whether or not this will work, but those of you with PS3s can maybe extract it to a USB drive, put the drive in the PS3, and try to copy the save from the USB drive to your profile from the XBL menu, maybe? If this works, you can have a pixelfuzz of your very own! Which is a little character-specific, in that unless you're specifically wanting to play as me then it may need some work as a template to turn into whatever else... but hey, it's better than Red Dog. :D

Pixelfuzz complete! I have now made it into the actual game, getting as far as the grass temple and beating the first boss.

IT IS GLORIOUS

[livejournal.com profile] slither picked up 3D Dot Game Heroes (I can't because I have no PS3 :() and we immediately started messing with the character creator. We're not actually going to play it until our pixel voxel creations can freely roam the land.

There really aren't any good anthro canine type templates--Wolf Man is only a wolf when he attacks and is a human when standing/walking, Poochi is a non-anthro four-legger, and Red Dog is godawful. I went with Wolf Man, and was thus tasked with turning a boring ol' human with bedhead hair into Teo. The werewolf form was unusable since it's way too menacing (I'm going for sort of a cute Teo here) and it's only in the attack frames anyway, so I'd have to alter the pose to turn it into a standing/walking deal after recoloring/tweaking to tone down the scary and turn it into Teo, which sounds suspiciously like more work than just turning the human stand pose into Teo at that point. Which itself was a daunting task... the only reason I didn't just make the whole thing from scratch is because the Wolf Man at least gives me something to start with and having a template at least allows me to get the super-deformed proportions... "right." This is why I chose Wolf Man. Poochi, again, is a four-legger, and Red Dog is so awful that it actually looks worse than if I had had to make something completely from scratch. Seriously, why is Red Dog in the game? I think Red Dog might actually even be worse than what you get when you try to just play with completely blank frames. (I AM SUGARCUBE OF DOOM, BEWARE ENEMIES.)

So yeah, I turned the basic standing pose of Wolf Man into Teo. It looks pretty good so far! But so much work went into that that copy/pasting that frame into the other frames and then altering and repositioning arms/legs/etc. to animate it will probably actually be less work than editing the preexisting frames (which are already in new poses for the animation but would have to be overhauled to be turned into Teo again) would be. I'll do some more work on that next time I visit Slither, and maybe someday soon we'll actually play. :D

Meanwhile, Slither took the Dragon and just played with the colors of the claws and wings and changed the horns to frills for his character. He had the whole thing done (making those tweaks to every frame) faster than it took me to overhaul just the first standing frame of Wolf Man --> Teo. Sigh.

It's okay, though. It turns out that I'm better at pixel voxel art, but Slither has way way way cooler templates that look closer to his characters to work with (he gets an awesome dragon, I get... Red Dog? Really?) and thus our creations should be roughly equal in terms of coolness by the time they're done, though mine will involve a lot more work. I really like how the standing frame in mine turned out, so I'm optimistic about the rest of it. It will be glorious when all is said and done and I have an awesome Teo avatar with which to roam the land.
