Thanks for posting this and warning me what I'm in for!
I didn't playing Dragon Warrior until I went on my emulation binge at university, so a lot of the weirdness and annoyances of the original DW were lost on me. I put the Dragonlord to sleep and save-scummed until he stayed that way, like the TAS I watched, and considered the game done. But I've been wanting to go back and do DQ1-3 in a more true-to-the-time playthrough (albeit the SFC 16-bit versions) so for me this is pretty timely.
