Animal Crossing New Horizons Roundup: One Little Voice Is Think Big

Nan was the next one in, which is a little weird, meaning Sprinkle was the third person invited (in fact the only one I didn't manually invite after I did invite the other two,) yet the first one to claim a vacant plot, yet the last to actually get her butt over here. ... Okay. Sure. Anyway, more neighbors, more developments, as our community grows!

*Glance Ardeiward*

Beau is sweet and precious and is wearing a deer sweater and I'm not entirely sure what to make of the latter.

So I am incredibly behind on these, such that I'm just posting this entry now even though I already have the screenshots for the next one if not the next two taken and awaiting upload. Thus, coming to you life from THE FUTURE, I can safely confirm that this is indeed one of the least weird things about this boy.

One of the side effects of this game having crafting is that I can get AWWW HE MADE THIS HIMSELF THAT IS THE SWEETEST THING vibes from this shell lamp. He even went on to say it was his best one, the one he got just right after numerous flawed attempts. I have absolutely zero use for a shell lamp and I'm going to put it in my storage and treasure it forever.

Beau may well end up being my favorite New Horizons villager by the time this is all said and done, and the one of when I think of this game (the same way Bam and Pashmina are so strongly associated with New Leaf to me, or Apollo, Mallary, and numerous others to Wild World.)

Oh, she gets a floor. So Beau is just... like that...? That's mildly concerning, considering I feel the strong urge to get him something safer before he starts eating the rocks or something.

... If that turns up, can I have it?

After my confusion with Beau probably being an adult (because he di make the decision to move and purchase a house and everything all by himself) yet going on about playing with everyone, giving off "I worry about this boy" vibes, etc., this (along with his natural glazed expression) presents an intriguing new theory: Beau is high as a goddamn kite as a default state.

Celine: Finally got a wardrobe, and I love the interface for dressing up now! That is so handy compared to previous games, especially for a fashion slut like me.

Oh hey, lost items are back. That's neat, that's a neat little extra touch to add interactivity with the villagers.

And the owner walks around with that "lost in thought" bubble visibly hanging over their head and asks you if you've seen it, which makes it easier to tell at a glance whose it is. I used to dread these things and just kind of pretend I didn't see them in New Leaf, because that was a "drop what you're doing and go talk to EVERYONE until one of them doesn't deny it's theirs" ordeal and this makes the quest much more convenient.

About time.

Given my penchant for completely forgetting or being busy or otherwise not getting around to these until several days later, the "as usual" comes across as a passive aggressive swipe at me. Thanks, Nook. Thook.

Celine: I sent Beau a random letter and present just to get his friendship up, and he replied from this. It was not his birthday. Beau. Honey. Sweetie.
Sara: Hey, but he's your happy guy, though. :3
Celine: ... *blush*

Canberra: *Is a koala and cannot read*

Previous theory confirmed.
I should note that he's working away at a crafting table, occasionally stopping to doze off for a few moments and then jolt back awake like his teacher just caught him sleeping in class.

Have I mentioned I worry about this boy

Our mysterious third contestant finally makes her long-awaited debut! She's adorable.

New Able Sisters shop is looking great! I love the depth of field focus effect on this shot. Pay

Yeah, yeah, we've been through this process before. Worth it every time. <3

I really like this interface too EXCEPT it's vexing to only be able to buy one outfit's worth of clothing at a time. You don't seem to be able to get all the color variant options without going into the dressing room, but the dressing room has the same "you can't just put on every single shirt you own at the same time layered over each other" restrictions that your wardrobe has. There's really no way to buy the blue and bronze scale mail shirts in the same transaction? Really?

"I don't have free time" was not an option. *pout*

So March 31 was the last day for stringfish before they go out of season, coming back in like... September or December or something? There were people on GameFAQs boards who reported going through like 300 bait or more trying to farm the damn things, they're that rare, and here I was trying to squeeze in "oh yeah I should catch a stringfish tonight" as a, like, twenty minutes before bed kind of errand. And somehow I actually pulled it off, with something like 6-8 or so bait used. This was basically my reaction, too.

Same for the sturgeon, (I was like "oops oh yeah brb need to get a stringfish and sturgeon real quick, running late so I'll hurry" on the last night,) but at least there's a trick for those. (I really did just have to get that lucky for the stringfish though.)

See, he gets it. (That's the trick. They only spawn if you sing that song in real life while fishing for them.)

Celine: Also got a Cute DIY Table which is like, totally my aesthetic. <3

The thing about buying everything you can fit on your body at once (because you know this is going to take three dressing room trips and you'd rather at least not make it six) is sometimes you accidentally throw together a look.

I was just curious what the "Here, this is yours!" option that kept popping up when talking to people did, and I had some extra flowers in my inventory so I was like uhhh here have these I guess, and I only belatedly realized what I'd just done....

The, uh, accidental flirtation seems to be going well, though...?

So I was like a week late getting this screenshot posted and I see in that time (greetings from the future, again) the Internet has decided we now hate this bunny and everything he stands for more than Jar Jar Binks. I'm kind of bummed about this. Like, I don't mind the Egg Day event? It's okay. And speaking as an Animal Crossing veteran, even if you hate Egg Day, you will never and can never hate it as much as Zipper does.

He barely waits for you to be out of range before he drops the HIPPITY HOPPITY HOORAY FOR EGGS bullshit act, let out a heavy sigh, and presumably contemplate throwing himself into the ocean for the third time this hour.
He doesn't need your hate, guys. He has plenty.

"Sooo... come here often?"

Am I the only one who finds this exact pose from Orville, the way he leans away while headtilting and looking back like that, really cute? Like, it just looks nice, and it's very accurate for when you're talking to person A on the phone/radio/etc. about person B standing right there. It's a minor touch but I just really like it.

Resident Services upgrade! I... have mixed feelings.
On one hand, it's a huge upgrade. The brick plaza looks snazzy as heck. The actual building looks great. Even just aesthetically this was long overdue and very welcome, and that's before you even get into the expanded NookStop terminal features, the triumphant return of hourly music and town tunes/flags and all that. This is great! Heck, we have Isabelle now, and that's scientifically proven to make any Animal Crossing game at least 250% better.
On the other, I'm starting to feel a little conflicted about all this development. Of course Nook just wants to keep growing, growing, growing; he is and always has been Capitalism: The Raccoon. That's his role in any AC game. He handles your home loans and construction, he (sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly through the Nooklings) runs a store, he's all about putting this town on the map. I'm... well... let's just say comparing the Village and Metropolis themes of SNES SimCity has always bothered me and I feel like that's a metaphor for a lot of things. Look, when I was a child, we grew up in kind of a rural suburb, my parents had Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" album, and I think about it a lot. And Sara... well... you know Sara. She's practically a druid.
What we're saying is I'm getting Once-ler vibes from Nook and I'm not sure how much longer I want to keep growing, you know? Not to sound like a small-town conservative, but every time a new resident moves in, I worry about how they'll fit in with the ones who were here from the beginning. While it hasn't happened yet, I keep imagining one day Canberra or Sterling is going to want to move out because this isn't the desert island getaway they signed up for anymore, and I honestly couldn't fault them for it at that point. It's... it's very Mother 3, you know? This island is Tazmily Village. I'm worried.

... *open mouth* *close mouth*

Is to look as much like a Captain Planet villain as possible while delivering this line? Come on, I was trying to move on for "Anyway I'm soapboxing and this got kind of dark, let's get back to silly screenshots and wisecracks shall we" reasons. Work with me here, Nook.

... Okay that I can get behind.

Town tunes are back! And this one has been the sort of... unofficial I guess, but it may as well be official now? This is The Woodling Leitmotif. It has been our Animal Crossing tune in every game we've played since Wild World. It comes from a song I started but never finished writing for a now-ex back when we were together well over a decade ago, one that I eventually finished and rededicated to Sara. A chiptune version of it will appear in our WFGR videos if those ever get off the ground--you know, that thing I was working on before Animal Crossing happened.
Anyway the full song is called "At Your Side" and it's kind of important to us, and now here it is in Animal Crossing again. *Fwee*

I've seen enough Doom crossover pictures at this point to have zero doubt that Isabelle will end you.

o///o

Yeah it's kind of unsatisfying when I can't--oh, like, visiting your house, yes,

Visiting a friend who has a Freddie Mercury microphone and various villager posters in her bathroom. This is normal.

That... that isn't how wrestling/boxing rings work....

Are the hippos supposed to look this fuzzy? Bubbles here looks like she escaped from Yoshi's Crafted World. I mean it looks GOOD, mind you, it's just... huh.

This is officially the best shirt ever made.

Oops I accidentally another look

Sterling put on a concert! Nan was walking by and was drawn to it just as I was, and sat down in rapt attention for the rest of the show (which went on for, like, hours, by the way.) That's a really cute mechanic. Everyone was really into it and looking like they were really having a good time.

Spoken with the facial expression of someone who forgot and then JUST REMEMBERED.

Beau was not kidding about how much he loved bugs, was he.

Not kidding. Also don't look now but I think I might have an idea who and where this mysterious visitor could be.
(There was a minor mishap on our way out, though.)

Oh, the, uh, the ceremonies, right.

We are gathered here today long after you closed and went home for the night, several days after the shop has been here....

I love Sable so much.

And that about wraps things up for this time! Now we're all caught up to... uh... no we're still super behind everything but hey, that just means hopefully the next one is coming soon? Hopefully?
