Congratulations! I beat Little Nemo as a child, somehow (I'm guessing kid patience and kid reflexes), but every time I've tried to go back as a adult I'm like, "Huh, none of my memories of this game have all this bullshit in them. Funny, that."
On the subject of difficulty, I kind of split the difference. It's fine for a developer to say that a certain way is the intended experience and they won't put in an easy mode or controllable difficulty or anything else...but similarly, once a player gets their hands on the game, they can change their experience any way they want, whether it's using cheats, modding the game, whatever. When I played System Shock II I modded durability loss way down and feel no remorse from it (though I ended up just using melee weapons for the entire playthrough so I needn't have bothered...). I might not have a lot to talk about with someone who modded Dark Souls so they're invincible and all enemies die in one hit, but if that's how they want to play the game, cool.
